JB returns home

Malawi President Joyce Banda returned home on Thursday from Geneva, Switzerland where she attended the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Annual International Labour Conference.

The President also attended to engagements in Ethiopia, Japan, China and England during the trip.

Banda returned home through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) aboard a South African Airways plane at 12:30pm.

She was welcomed by Vice-President Khumbo Kachali, Cabinet ministers, Chief Secretary to the Government Hawa Ndilowe, senior Malawi government officials and ruling People’s Party officials and supporters.

Speaking to Statte broadcaster MBC at KIA after inspecting a guard of honour, Banda said she had a fruitful trip and that Malawi came out shining at every event she attended.

In Ethiopia, the President attended the African Union (AU) 50th Anniversary commemoration whereas in Japan she attended the fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad).

A press conference she was scheduled to address was cancelled at the eleventh hour with State House press officer Brian Banda announcing that “it was considered that the remarks the President made to MBC soon after Her Excellency’s arrival at KIA [were] enough.”
